Writing Scoring Guides

There are 6 areas that are scored on the scoring guides.
The 1st benchmark (3rd grade) includes the following areas only:

Ideas and Content
Organization
Conventions

The 2nd grade standard (5th grade) includes all areas except for voice.

Word Choice

Conventions
(This is often the hardest area for students)

Citing Sources
(This is required on any type of paper that requires research)

Voice
(This is not scored at elementary level, but will be at later levels)

Passing scores:

1st benchmark (3rd grade)
Students must pass the following areas with a score of 3 or above
Ideas and Content
Organization
Conventions

2nd benchmark (5th grade)

Students must score a 4 or above in all areas except for voice (citing sources as needed)
